Fairies in the Garden

I believe in everything until it’s disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now? ~John Lennon

I think I fell in love with fairies when I first saw the Peter Pan teleplay in the early 1960s. I was so taken by Tinkerbell, I knew fairies had to exist. And it was when I began to garden in earnest about 30 years ago, I knew I had to bring the fairies into my garden. To welcome them and make them feel at home.

And so I did just that with many statues that moved with me from garden to garden. And they are here now to watch over the plants and animals in my current garden.

I recently added one more fairy….the new ‘The Fairy’ rose. I had one in my old garden and after trying to grow any rose in this new garden, I decided ‘The Fairy’ rose was my last try.

So I planted it in a special spot where it will get lots of sun and warmth. So far it is doing well. This fairy rose is from White Flower Farm. And I have a feeling it will be well looked after by me and by the fairies that dwell in the garden and woods.

I created a vase using some of the fairy roses and other flowers still flowering here.

Even though we had over an inch of snow last week, we have not had a freeze or frost. So lavender, bacopa, sweet peas and coral bells are sweetly blooming in these 40 and 50 degree daytime highs (40s and high 30s at night).

Once the garden has had its freeze, and the perennials are finished, I will discard the rest of the annuals. But for now, I just can’t let them go. Besides they make a beautiful vase.

With this vase, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at  Rambling in the Garden.
