“To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.” ~ Jane Austen
Such a true statement. Viewing the green of the woods and the meadows. Breathing in the scents that have come alive now. That is tonic for me.
As I have been watching the hummers dance and drink at the honeysuckle vine, I am filled with such gladness. I know it needs a trim or it will take over completely, But I don’t want to take many flowers for a vase as these are sacred.
So I cut back the wayward vines and added a flower or two for a vase. There are still a few gray aphids on the vine that disfigure and change the flowers so those I will cut out to give way for new growth.
The aphids start to move away once the nasturtiums, planted nearby, grow bigger. This native beauty is much anticipated by hummers and me as we watch its flowers open.
The colors are so amazing to me, and the nectar intoxicating to the hummingbirds.
They definitely fight over this food source. And there is no scent to the flowers of this native coral honeysuckle, sadly. But the color and the hummers constantly flying around it make up for that.
So what better vase than one filled with vines and flowers from a treasured native plant.
With this vase, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.
