“Then sing, ye birds, sing, sing a joyous song!”
~William Wordsworth
Gökotta is the act of rising early on a spring morning to hear the first birds or to go outside to appreciate nature. It is from the Swedish word rooted in folklore. This practice is a peaceful way of connecting with nature in early spring. Watching the sun rise, picking flowers, taking a walk. Do whatever brings you joy on an early spring morning.
The bird pictured here is an American robin (Turdus migratorius).

Love it, I do the same!
It is special.
That’s a lovely practice, Donna. Thanks for expanding my limited Swedish vocabulary! (I picked up more Finnish from my mother – mostly swear words unfortunately.)
Glad I could help. Sometimes those are the best words. Wink wink!
Oh yes,, listening to and watching the birds in the morning is a great way to start the day.
There is something so easy about it. Making me breathe deeply.
Oh, good advice! I’m becoming more of a morning person as I age, and I generally wake up with the sun in the spring and summer. I’m enjoying birdsongs lately when I take the dog out, but maybe I’ll have to “cheat” every once in a while and spend a few moments in the garden by myself before I take him out. 😉 Lovely photo of the robin!
Thanks. The robins have been enjoying the sumac especially the last few days as we got more snow. But warming again. Enjoy that garden.
