In A Vase On Monday: Autumn Views

DSCN9221

“Nothing is more fleeting than external form, which withers and alters like the flowers of the field at the appearance of autumn.”  ~Umberto Eco

Autumn is moving fast these days as the cooler temps hold on, and gray rainy skies add to the bit of melancholy I have been feeling.  Lots of blooms still in the garden and special surprises.  The monarch above was refueling in the garden on October 4th.  I doubt we will see others now as he must have been a lone straggler trying to catch up with his chums.

As the Harvest Moon was approaching at the end of September, I was out at dusk catching the almost full moon rise.  I heard the sound of geese in the distance traveling by moonlight.  See them in the right top corner.

And As I focused in on the moon…..

I caught this amazing shot.

Turning toward the setting sun, I then saw this view…..what a spectacular fall.

Autumn has given us many amazing views as we await the foliage fire we usually start to see mid-month.  And the cutting gardens are continuing to churn out wonderful blooms so forgive the repeat of flowers used in this week’s vases.

With the cooling of the air and soil, the cosmos will be ending soon.  So I picked a batch of tall, large blooms to showcase in their own vase.

I love how the petals dance in the waning light of October….

I had so many large cosmos, that I decided to cut more, and put them in the first vase I ever purchased.  This time I cut a couple of Tagetes as a wonderful contrast.  I also love the look of this vase on the window sill.  Of course I made a little posy to go with the larger vase.

Here are a few more views of the posy with Cosmos, CalendulaAntirrhinum and Alyssum.
