Decorating My Soul

Hot weather returned this weekend, and with it the warmer weather annuals were planted up. I have a few more pots I still want to plant, but all-in-all pots are shaping up nicely.

I adore petunias. And they are so reliable. In so many beautiful colors, I never know which I will chose until I get to the nursery.

This is a hanging one in the most beautiful pink and yellow blend.

And these pink ones are perfect for my antique urns.

The front porch gets lots of eastern morning sun, so I plant begonias for those shadier afternoons.

Add to that fun colorful coleus are great in the shadier corners.

And of course the annuals I seeded, like these nasturtiums and zinnias, really coming on.

The pansies and violas are still going strong repotted and put throughout the garden.

Another favorite annual of mine is Calibrachoa or Callie Bells. These are perfect for a hanging basket. Or a hot spot like the back patio in the southern sunlight of summer. Baking in the heat, they can stand up to it.

I adore so many annuals, but seem to stick to those I know can stand up to the conditions in the different areas of my garden. I shopped for a few more right before the storms, yesterday, to fill a few more terra cotta pots. I added some different plants to the mix and we shall see how they turn out when I plant them up this week. I’ll be sure to keep the labels so I know how they do.

A cold streak last week, with threats of frost, kept the flowers that were trying to bloom in their buds. But a few have begun to show promise. I cut a small tendril of the native honeysuckle (no scent), and a few clusters of clematis leaves. A very different vase for me. The honeysuckle hasn’t quite opened yet. But the hummers are awaiting their opening, on the trellis, just outside my back door.
