In a Vase on Monday – Stars on Earth

‘Lilies are like stars on Earth – radiant, dreamy, and full of magic.’ ~Unknown

When my husband came home with Oriental lilies, I was so excited. These beauties are not growing in my little garden of mostly containers. But I have always been smitten with them, with all lilies, which is why they were in my old garden. Their beauty radiates out like the quote says, ‘Stars on Earth’.

So I eagerly placed them in water and waited for them to open. It is like watching the sky darken and the stars appear one at a time. Just a whisper…..

Then the first star…..

Then more opening….

….while the buds fatten and change to a beautiful pink.

It has been a delight to watch more and more stars fill the vase. Definitely has made this gardener and her inner child squeal with joy.

With this vase, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at  Rambling in the Garden.

  1. They really are beautiful Donna. And I love that comparison to stars. You have reminded me to go out and look at them tonight.

  2. They are beautiful. Lilies really are a perfect floral gift, for all the reasons you’ve mentioned … Just watch out for that pollen though πŸ˜‰ !

  3. Another wonderful gift from your thoughtful husband, Donna! I have a lily fixation too. I never thought I could grow the Oriental lilies in my climate but after one success, I’ve kept adding more. They may not last forever in my garden but I appreciate whatever time they give me.
