In a Vase on Monday – Zinnia Confetti

“People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.”  ~ Iris Murdoch

I was thinking of including, in last week’s vase, the many zinnia flowering. But instead I had an idea for a fun display of just zinnia this week.

The zinnia is one tough flower and is said to mean endurance. The zinnia is one flower in my garden that endures and continues to bloom until frost. And it loves the brutal heat of summer.

I decided to display them in this precious vase given to me by a dear friend.

There are several varieties in this huge pot so I cut one of each at different lengths.

I like the structure and how the stems stick out with a pop of color at the end like confetti suspended.

I was trying to move a few other flowers when a dahlia bloom, ‘Break Out’ snapped.

So I kept it for a singular vase. I think I like this dahlia by itself. It makes such a bold statement.

With these vases, I am also joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at  Rambling in the Garden.

  1. Dahlias and zinnias – what could be better?! I couldn’t quite compell myself to cut my ‘Break Out’ Dahlias this week – maybe next week 😉

  2. That gift from your friend is such a lovely thing, Donna – you must really treasure it. And that scarlet zinnia is stunning! It was interesting to see the different colours and flower shapes too – thanks for sharing them

  3. I love cheerfulness of zinnias… they shout, ‘Summer!’ to me.
That’s a lovely shade of dahlia. A happy accident to end up inside for closer viewing.

  4. Lovely Zinnias – and the way you have displayed them in that pretty vase makes each one stand out and shine. Beautiful Dahlia too Donna.

  5. I agree the Dahlia is well-served having its own special vase. Lovely. And the zinnias are a delight. I have some similar to your larger varieties but have forgotten the names. Especially love the red color.
