“It is like the seed put in the soil – the more one sows, the greater the harvest.” ~Orison Swett Marden
Living in the central area of New York state, we are lucky to have beautiful fall weather, bright fall colors and apples. Lots of apple orchards surround us.
And thankfully we have one that is organic, meaning no pesticides coating each apple. It is just a half hour south of us on a hill; Adam’s Acres.
A beautiful scenic drive up hill and past a lovely reservoir. A small orchard brimming with apples of wonderful varieties; Liberty, Honeycrisp, Spartan, Northern Spy and Florina. All yummy.
We picked 4 times so far with just enough for the two of us to eat an apple a day. We’ll likely go one more time before they close for the short season of about 6-8 weeks.
Thankfully my garden season continues. There are still lots of container flowers growing, but soon it will be time to compost them. So I thought I would put together a compilation of what is blooming for a couple of weeks. You know about the hydrangeas and lavender from last week-both still going strong.
But this week I grabbed a couple of flowers from a few small pots for a small posy.
Coleus flowers, containers dahlia, marigolds.
All making a wonderful combo.
With this vase, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.

A lovely celebration of the last of our annuals, Donna. We’ll take them as long as Nature permits. May we be frost free for several more weeks!
Crossing my fingers.
Yum! Apple time–yay! We have quite a few orchards in the area, too, and we’re planning a visit to one later this week. Your arrangement is beautiful, as always, too. 🙂
Thanks Beth. I can only imagine how beautiful it is around you right now.
How lovely to be able to pick apples like that. Donna. In the IK we have places where you can pick your own soft fruit, but I am not sure if that happens with apples, pears. plums etc, as they are no orchards very near us.
Your simple vase is lovely, especially with that pretty pink dahlia. It makes a surprisingly good combination with the bright orange marigolds. Thanks for sharing
I know we are lucky here. I am glad you enjoyed the simple vase.
How fun to be close enough to pick apples a few times during the season. Love your colorful vase this week, especially the dahlias.
We are lucky to have a bounty of many crops around us.
What a pretty colourful vase, and I enjoyed your introduction showing the countryside around you and the orchard too. Have a good week.
Thanks Noelle. Glad you enjoyed it.
How wonderful to pick your own organic apples under beautiful blue skies (free of smog!) like that, Donna. Your bouquet is lovely and I’ve no doubt it brings you joy.
It definitely does. Yes. Clear skies are a big plus here.
I am glad you are able to pick apples from the orchards near you – what a lovely way to spend a few hours, driving there and enjoying the autumn sunshine too. I love your posy today Donna. It is so lovely! The colours are beautiful and you always show your flowers off so nicely with decorations.
Oh thank you Cathy. Yes it is a lovely outing.
Stunning, colourful arrangement. Love the Coleus leaf. I can relate to all the apples at this time. I have a bin of imperfect ones for people to help themselves. They make great applesauce, pies etc.

Oh yes. The imperfect ones are great.
I miss the russet apples from Switzerland – a crisp, and not so sweet one. We went to a smallholding and got fresh goat cheese and a bunch of Swiss chard.
You get great joy from your own harvest of bright flowers!
Yes. Crisp and a bit tart is our favorite.
