“Nothing is more wistful than the scent of lilac, nor more robust than its woody stalk…” ā Stevie Smith
Late spring and lilacs…..ahhhh! The scents of spring are intoxicating. After a long winter of snow and cold with few scents to mark the months, it is almost overwhelming when spring arrives.

But it is in late spring (May to be specific), when we are assailed the most. My favorite month-of course it’s my birthday month. The scents and sights bring back so many memories.

Lilacs fill the bushes here in the northeast in May. While I miss my lilac bushes from bygone gardens, I have Korean lilacs to fill the void. They bloom a bit later into early June while spring is still around.

I love when these beauties arrive. I only cut a few to fill a favorite Belleek vase. Hope you enjoy them as much as me.
With this vase, I am linking in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at Ā Rambling in the Garden. All the pictures shared in this post were taken with my iPhone camera, and enhanced with the Prisma app.

So pretty!
Thanks. Lilacs are so special.
All of our Lilacs (Syringa and Palibin) are done here, so I’m a bit sad. The scent is amazing, as you describe. But, on to the next stars of the garden, I guess. I love that vase, too, Donna. š
We are behind here as it has been cool and seeds have been slow to grow. But this week we will be near 90 daily with t-storms so I suspect the next stars are coming.
What a lovely change to see something other than lilac lilacs – these white and pale pinks are delightful, Donna. Thanks so much for sharing them
My pleasure. They seem to change color all on one bush which I love. Nature. What a wonder.
Happy Birthday Donna, the shades on your lilac are so subtle, its the first time I’ve seen this one. It is gorgeous.
Thanks. I think based on the subtle changes in sun and shade throughout the bush, the colors are muted and pale shades.
Your lilacs are beauties, Donna. We can’t grow “proper” lilacs here. Those that are sold here aren’t deeply scented.
Oh that is too bad. That is like most roses available for sale as cut flowers here. I canāt grow big scented roses and those available in the store barely have a scent.
The scent of lilacs in spring will always be a favorite of mine. Brings back childhood memories.
It is special Janice.
Very pretty Donna, and lovely to have plants that bring back good memories. Hope they last well in a vase for you to enjoy!
I find the Korean lilacs donāt last as long as traditional ones sadly.
