In a Vase on Monday – Renewed

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” ~William Shakespeare

Our crazy early spring weather continued. Cold, strong winds howling, snow, sleet and rain. With wee peeks of sun. Saturday’s temps near 70 and thunderstorms with a 45 degree drop overnight and snow and cold again. Yes Mother Nature is sure fickle. Her daughter winter is engaged in her yearly sibling rivalry with her sister spring each trying to assert dominance. But I have such gratitude for each minute of sunshine, each drop of rain and each warm degree upward.

Because of the cold weather bulbs are still unwilling to bloom outside, so I asked my husband to find me some flowers when he was out grocery shopping. Even these were slim pickings. He loved the purple and white chrysanthemum, and I think he chose wisely. I put them on the bookcase with some family pictures and easter decorations.

The table still had flowers from last week which were going strong, chrysanthemum, carnation, and Canterbury Bells.

I just love the bold colors helping to encourage spring to assert her dominance and stick around. It seems this week we are due for lots of rain, some sun and more spring-like temps in the 50s. Hoping this will encourage the bulbs to bloom.

And a perfect week to warm up with Easter on the way. As my husband says, “The Easter bunny will be coming soon.” His basket is out in anticipation. Is yours?

  1. Your Easter bunnies and decorations are very cheerful, as are the flowers your husband chose for you. Easter has crept up on me almost unnoticed, as the cold keeps coming back here too. But by mid April the worst should be over. Hopefully for you too Donna. At least we have more daylight hours now!

  2. We are a tad bit warmer here on Long Island, so we had some daffodils out for Palm Sunday, and I was able to cut a few and put into a vase to honor my mother’s birthday in heaven (99!)

What is exciting me are the forsythia which are just about ready to burst open in a big yellow SHOUT OUT FOR SPRING!

This wave of warmth will find it’s way up to you my friend…. just around the corner. Be well.

  3. That’s a huge drop in temperature, Donna! Although we have had sunny afternoons that felt pleasantly warm, temperatures are still mostly in the lower 60s when the sun is out, and we had a light frost last night. Your chrysanthemums are very striking but I especially like the manipulated picture of last week’s blooms

    1. Oh yes Janice…it is so wonderful to have that smell inside as it brings nature and the garden indoors to gladden my heart.

  4. Wonderful purple Chrysanthemums for Easter week. Spring is on the way! You have had some dramatic weather. Spring bulbs soon.

  5. Beautiful quote and so true too. One feels so invigorated all of a sudden although I do agree maybe less so when the wind is howling and snow is falling but you have those pretty flowers to look at and hopefully a nice book or activity to enjoy indoors. Mind you, winter was to short to finish my crochet projects. May spring come quickly to you too 🙂
