In a Vase on Monday – In the Conservatory

There is a garden in her eyes, where roses and white lilies flow. ~Thomas Campion

White and green remind me of a wedding photo or a conservatory….even a cottage garden in summer. The clean lines and simple effect are calming, peaceful and a beautiful backdrop. Which are some of the reasons I love white flowers.

When I look at my garden right now , I see mostly white flowers against the dark gray containers. I didn’t plan it, but these flowers are the stalwart ones continuing their bloom in the cold, gray, wet October weather of late. And I think I will plant more next spring.

Especially in the front containers where hostas are growing. Maybe a bit of coleus again as well. But not too much color. A perfect background for other colorful containers scattered around. Like a white wall in a museum displaying colorful works of art. Clean lines.

When my husband brought home lilies they made me think it was still summer. Perhaps that I was in a conservatory where I would be seeing a wedding taking place. Or just enjoying the beautiful green tropical plants growing.

I created a vase for the lilies using a white and green vase. I chose the vase before I even thought of this post. How serendipitous.

Then I added white Cosmos and Bacopa to the lavender still blooming for another sweet vase. These displayed against the greens of the houseplants.

With these vases, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at  Rambling in the Garden.

  1. Yes, those lilies definitely look like a table decoration for a wedding – but what a sweet creation you have made with your own blooms, and they look all the better against the backdrop of your indoor plants

  2. Both vases are delightful, and I noticed that unusual pumpkin besides the picture of the vase with cosmos, which I think is remarkable. Have a good week.

  3. I love lilies, the shape, the fragrance. They always make me feel I am special somehow when I purchase them. I grow them too, but hate to cut them. They last a long time in my gardens. Some still have a bit of green leaves showing.

  4. Tour husband is a jewel, Donna! My garden needs more white flowers, especially this time of year. On a plant shopping trip this past weekend, I picked up 2: Cisctus ‘Blanche’ and Arctostaphylos ‘Sunset’, although neither will produce flowers until spring at best πŸ˜‰

  5. I’ve never grown bacopa, but if it is still flowering this late in the season, perhaps I should consider it. Is it drought tolerant?

  6. The lilies are beautiful, and do make you think of spring and summer, but your green and white vase with little bits and pieces from your garden is equally lovely Donna!
