In a Vase on Monday – Trumpeting Spring

It has been a quick and wonderful start to the new year. Going strong with my writing and my new artistic endeavor of doodling. And then it came crashing down with neck pain, leading to hand pain, and sidelining me from doing much but a short blog post weekly and a small spot of doodling each day to allow me to keep my daily art habit.

And when spring finally arrived with warmth and breezes and gentle rain, I still felt adrift. But recently with more plants waking and growing I am starting to revive. I planted flower seeds like calendula, sweet pea, California poppy and Johnny Jump Up. And started radishes and greens/lettuces. Getting my hands in the soil has grounded me a bit, and allowed me to explore my feelings surrounding my set back of sorts.

I am feeling less blue and anxious about the physical issues that have cropped up knowing that these need to be deeply healed so I can continue to pursue my creative passions. Interesting how sometimes we have to be hit over the head to stop and heal the obvious. Looking at these tulips from Easter as they fade, makes me think of the beauty of aging. But that may be a post for another day.

Anyway, the garden is giving me pleasure to see the first flowers come and go so fleetingly like life. To be appreciated in the moment. Like these trumpet daffodils.

Purply-blue hyacinths

Iris Reticulata ‘Blue Hill’ and Puschkinia also still blooming. All cherished for their ties to a rebirth in the garden.

The vase has been going for days as I plucked these plants before the deluge of rain came.

So lovely to see my own flowers bringing such heady scents spreading their magic throughout the house.
