“The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.” ~Harriet Ann Jacobs
It has been a quick and wonderful start to the new year. Going strong with my writing and my new artistic endeavor of doodling. And then it came crashing down with neck pain, leading to hand pain, and sidelining me from doing much but a short blog post weekly and a small spot of doodling each day to allow me to keep my daily art habit.
And when spring finally arrived with warmth and breezes and gentle rain, I still felt adrift. But recently with more plants waking and growing I am starting to revive. I planted flower seeds like calendula, sweet pea, California poppy and Johnny Jump Up. And started radishes and greens/lettuces. Getting my hands in the soil has grounded me a bit, and allowed me to explore my feelings surrounding my set back of sorts.
I am feeling less blue and anxious about the physical issues that have cropped up knowing that these need to be deeply healed so I can continue to pursue my creative passions. Interesting how sometimes we have to be hit over the head to stop and heal the obvious. Looking at these tulips from Easter as they fade, makes me think of the beauty of aging. But that may be a post for another day.
Anyway, the garden is giving me pleasure to see the first flowers come and go so fleetingly like life. To be appreciated in the moment. Like these trumpet daffodils.
Siberian Squill
Purply-blue hyacinths
Iris Reticulata ‘Blue Hill’ and Puschkinia also still blooming. All cherished for their ties to a rebirth in the garden.
The vase has been going for days as I plucked these plants before the deluge of rain came.
So lovely to see my own flowers bringing such heady scents spreading their magic throughout the house.
With this vase, I am joining in with the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, from Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.

Nothing better than the aroma of home grown beauty.
Exactly!
That’s a very pretty posy, Donna! I love the colors of that squill. I’m glad you’re feeling the balm that spring provides.
Thanks so much Kris.
First flowers of the season in the garden really cheer me up, too. That’s a beautiful arrangement in your vase! I’m glad you’re feeling better, Donna. Take care.
Thanks so much Beth!
Wonderful, classic vase of spring flowers. I love the color combination. Happy Spring! Amelia
Thanks so much
Hurrah for spring! It really renews us on many levels. Take it easy and soak up the sunshine while you can before the next deluge!
I definitely will. Thanks.
Glad that you are beginning to feel better! Best wishes. I’ve been planting many of the same seeds as you … except I don’t know what Johnny Jumped Up is?? 😉
Thanks. Johnny Jump Ups are violas.
That is such a lovely vase Donna. And your photos are especially pretty this week too. Wishing you some warm spring sunshine for you and your garden and the seeds too.
Thanks we could use it.
I hope your pain is continuing to improve. I love the color combination of your vase. I am also planting indoors, and just put my sweet peas out in the garden.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the vase.
