“Don’t seek to be happy; let everyone else chase after that rainbow. Seek to be kind, and you’ll find the rainbow follows you.” ~Richelle E. Goodrich
I have always loved rainbows. Seeing them occurring in nature. The surprise gift after the rain. I love viewing them from my home always knowing which window to check to see them. Once when I was driving down from the mountains, to the valley in the desert, I was gifted by one of the most stunning rainbows I had ever seen. If I had been alone, I would have stopped and lingered in its presence. Thankfully the drive down the mountain was long so I could savor it for a while.
Rainbows seem to evoke such joy…the wonder of nature before I understood how they were formed. But even still I consider them magic and look for them everywhere. They can represent Peace, Tolerance, Hope and Good Fortune. Isn’t that wonderful? I love that symbolism. It is most apt.
I thought I would get out in my waning garden to see what was still growing. And how many colors of the rainbow I could find; ROY G BIV as we learned in school. I am taking a bit of license with some of the colors. This dahlia is like part of the rainbow in pastel all by itself.
Red zinnia
And Red nasturtiums
Orange marigolds
Yellow chrysanthemums…an adopted plant from my neighbor.
Green…well that is all over but I wanted to use this pinky-red and green coleus.
Blue, Indigo, Violet are difficult to find in my garden right now. So instead I grouped them and included some lavender to represent the violet especially. Of course the darker purple in the small flower heads of the coleus above are part of this too.
So here it is….what a fabulous late summer vase in all most colors of the rainbow still going strong.
Not sure where to place it indoors, so I chose this small table with a rainbow colored stained glass lamp shade.
With this week’s lovely vase, I am linking in to the wonderful meme, In A Vase On Monday, at Rambling in the Garden.

Gorgeous!
Thank you.
You did a great job of pulling your rainbow of flowers together, Donna. And I love flowers like that dahlia with subtle variations in color that mimic aspects of a rainbow too. May your rainstorms bring lots of rainbows in the coming year.
Thanks my friend. That means so much!!
Wonderful bright colors, it is hard to beat the beauty of a rainbow.
Oh I couldn’t agree more
How refreshing!!!!! Such a happy feeling with all the colors.
Thanks I agree!
A beautiful quote, rainbow and vase, Donna. The nasturtiums are awesome. I love the red. Your dahlia is fantastic, gorgeous form and color.
I am pleased with it too. The only one that bloomed. The nasturtiums were great. I do love them.
Oh, that is lovely Donna. And your rainbow in the sky too. They have a fascination to us humans, don’t they! You have so much colour in your small gardening space!
Thanks Cathy.
That was such a great idea for a vase Doona, and what bounty you have amassed to make your rainbow!
It was indeed some luck and some help from the weather
Oh a prefect rainbow filled vase Donna and so cheering to look at on what is a decidedly autumnal day here. Thank you for providing me with some warmth and light
My pleasure
I saved this post because this week was so busy. Though I love ‘working for myself’, the work I do still supports and addresses the needs of my clients. And this week was busy. But I needed something to look forward to… and that was your post. The way your write touches me. Tapping into my love for patterns and colors and meaning. My garden this year was ripe with herbs (HUGE pots of Basil and Pesto), but I have been so busy, too busy to harvest…hopefully there will be enough left next weekend to make and freeze some pesto and chimichuri sauce. I had some lovely cosmos and zinnias late in the season, that rolled over the morning glories tired from a busy but rainy summer. Thank God for my oldest daughter and her green thumb and kindred heart. Here’s to the rest ahead over the winter, and to a bright spring in 2024. Thanks Donna for your inspiration. Many hugzzz.
Oh thanks so much Joyce. Kindred hearts and here’s to winter’s rest!
